E-course 3: Don’t Let ‘Life’ Get In The Way
Creating a lean and muscular physique for most of us is not done in isolated perfect conditions where we can eat, train and sleep - free of any other responsibilities. For many, their physical goals often get side tracked by a vast number of other commitments and events that occur. In the short term this is not so much of a problem, although with planning and organisation, it can be avoided altogether. The critical thing is to ensure that a temporary setback doesn’t become a long layoff even to the point where you spend years not doing anything and eventually become a statistic with some form of degenerative disease. The first key to managing your training is to be realistic and brutally honest about how often you can train and how much total time you can devote to it. Once you have decided this you can then put that time aside and give your training priority it deserves. If you are truly honest with a manageable amount of time, you will set yourself up for success by being able to commit much more strongly and make the most of what time you have consistently. Organisational skills in general are also highly important due to the fact we don’t live in a ‘boot camp’ and obtaining a lean muscular body requires you to also invest time in taking care of your nutritional and lifestyle requirements. The key here is to work with the people closest to you so that they are aware of what you are doing and can be as helpful and supportive as possible of your process. If the people around you are working together with you then it is far less likely that things will suddenly occur that will derail your plans and you will keep on top of the myriad of ‘little things’ that need to be done to ensure your progress far better
Finally, despite your best intentions things still won’t go according to plan. Just relax and let it go. Our physical appearance and the way we look and feel about ourselves can be a highly emotive issue. Those that succeed in the end and keep a great physique for life year after year do so because they don’t judge themselves harshly over any perceived shortcomings or when things go wrong. The fitness elite have an understanding of their body and have mastered how it works so why should they worry? They are in complete control and live with the peace of mind that they are free to sculpt and change their body at any time. They are empowered by their knowledge and no matter what life throws at them, they have the ability to make an effective training, nutrition and lifestyle plan that works for the situation they find themselves in. The elite never lose sight of the big picture.
The masses constantly live in fear that they won’t be able to maintain a certain level of results or that they will not be able to get back to where they once were ‘if life gets in the way’. This means that a small setback can turn into those dreaded long layoffs because it all seems ‘too hard’ as well as leading to the dead end cycle of failure from trying to go too hard too quickly. Life will get in the way of your training at various times. The simple question is will you be ready for when it does?
